In an Indian wedding party
Catering is charity.
Hosts spend, guests chill;
Hosts’ onus, guests’ thrill.
The venue and its location,
The facilities and decoration,
All glean to appeal,
If not, anything can repeal.
Hosts and guests hug,
Showing up the hype big and big;
Even on such an occasion,
Can we see ego submission?
Water, juice, coffee or tea
He would, in person, offer with a gentle glee;
All day, walk through to every corner,
Young or old, politely ask and handover.
Wearing kurta-dhoti, bald head and a smile,
Walk unambiguously like a relative of all.
Host, guest or servant, service is the rule,
This grand old man knows no beguile.
If we like simple, sincere,
Dedicated and spiritual air,
We have lessons to learn for mind and body,
We have lessons to learn for mind and body.
PS. I saw this old man at a family function in a big hall in DD Colony in Hyderabad, India, in 2009.
