26. Nature vs. Nurture

The distance between two points is measurement —
In both directions; But what of displacement?

It is so natural for a seed
It requires the elemental feed;
The earth, water, sunlight and warmth
To absorb each one to show its growth.

Firstly, it starts sprouting
The initial fascination starts touting;
The beginning of the newborn admiration
The beginning of the bond and adulation.

Secondly, it grows into a lovely plant
It develops the bond, so flamboyant;
The expectations and aspirations multiply
As the plant grows, they unwaveringly fly.

Thirdly, it takes years to grow into a tree
It endures every season and offers for free —
Its roots, trunk, branches, leaves, flowers and fruits
All start contributing to the natural truths.

Yet, so susceptible a tree, to uproot, break, cut or destroy,
A flood, a cyclone, a blade — anything is a ploy;
So it is for trust, that takes so long to build,
Anything can kill it — a word, an idea, a mind!

While the distance remains to be the same,
Should one be watchful of the displacement’s game?

Childhood, youth and middle age are keen stages of learning. I believe, the unlearning is a way to learn as we move forward from here, just as a satellite would detach itself from a few components to reach its destination. In this process, we might leave a few footsteps! Hence the effort to store a few ideas in English, Telugu and Hindi.
